Christine Hodgetts RIP Derby Win Colts Lose narrowly – U15 win This week’s games VP lunch 200 Club Hayley is 30! International Tickets Subs

Christine Hodgetts RIP. I am sorry to inform you of the death of Christine, who passed away last week after illness. Christine was the wife of John Hodgetts, former Club Chairman, Treasurer and other things and she always played an important role in supporting him within the club, as well as being active in her own right as a local councillor and one-time Mayor of Warwick - with John acting as her Mayoress! Our sympathy and best wishes go to John and the family. Details of the funeral arrangement are confirmed as follows

A formal service will be held at St Mary’s Church Warwick on Friday 11 0ctober at 1.30 , followed by a family cremation service and a reception at Leamington Rugby Club, from about 3.00. All are welcome to attend.

Derby delight. The 1st XV followed up its win against Evesham with a similar score-line away at neighbours Old Leamingtonians on Saturday. Against a very large pack we passed the ball around at every opportunity and scored three tries to one in the first half, including a spectacular effort from Conor Chamberlain, running round their defence. OLs piled on the pressure after the break and for a 10-minite spell we were down to 13 men. A try during this period put OLs back in the game, but a second try from Conor and a late penalty from Patch Northover made it 27-14 and secured the points. Read John Warner’s full report on the website.

The 2nd XV was due to play Southam but the opposition cried off. The Colts played at Kenilworth on Friday night and in a close game, Kenilworth took their chances better than we did and we lost narrowly by 19-12. Kyne Milbourne and Harry Bonner scored our two tires. Although disappointing, this was much better than last time they played, when we lost heavily. The U15 played on Sunday and they won away at Alcester by 36-15

This week the 1sts are at home to Alcester who have started their season with 2 wins, including a 76-0 demolition of Bromsgrove 2nd on Saturday. We witnessed how good they were last year when they finished just behind us in fourth place. We beat them at home in September with a strong finish after a tight game and we had a bit of a disaster over there at New Year when they appeared to have celebrated less than us.
Also on Saturday, the 2nds are away at Nuneaton (3.00). The Colts are not playing as far as I know. On Sunday, the U16 and U15s are at Harbury (11.00) and the U10 are at Kenilworth. The other age groups are training.

VP Lunch. The first VP lunch of the season will be held before the Alcester game on Saturday at 12.30 for 1.00. If you want to come, please get in touch with Derren_Nisbet@hotmail.com or your table monitor as soon as possible There will be a draw for the 200 club at some point during the afternoon. Prizes are £300, £200, £100 and £50. The 200 club is a great earner and you have the chance of getting your money back as a prize. If you want to get into this first draw of the season, please contact Kit Forrest on 07748 658086 or kit.forrest1951@gmail.com

Haley is 30! Our physio, Hayley White informs me that her 30th birthday is coming up and that she is having a party at the Club on Saturday 28 September, after the Barkers Butts game. Everyone is invited but if you are coming, please try and let Hayley know, so she can get an idea of the numbers for food

I still have a few spare tickets for the autumn international against Australia (at £96) Get in touch if interested. I have secured our Six Nations allocation and these will be on offer shortly

Annual Subscriptions for 2024-25 are now due. Details of the categories of membership, the rates that apply and how you can pay, are set on the sheet attached. The rates are mostly unchanged. Separate arrangements apply to mini and junior membership which are being dealt with through the pre-season registration process. We also have new categoties – for the new Ladies and Veterans teams.

There are several ways to pay including credit card (over the bar) or by cheque but we would prefer you to pay by standing order (monthly or annually) which you can set up using Internet or mobile Banking. The club details are – sort code 16-23-15, account 11851701, reference “annual subs”.

Phil McGaffin has taken over as Membership Secretary and he will be doing an audit of who has paid and will knock on your door if you appear to have lapsed. If you already pay by Standing Order, you don’t need to do anything unless you haven’t updated it in line with changes in the subscription rates. Please check the amount you are paying and increase it if appropriate and make an additional payment to cover the difference between what you have paid and the correct amount. If your membership category has changed (e.g. Colt/Student to Senior Player; retired player to VP; or Mini and Junior parent to VP/Social) adjust your payment and please confirm the change by email
