Last weekend and the derby ahead
It was a mixed Saturday on 24 October: the first XV lost 17–47 to Manor Park, with tries from Louis Harvey and Ben Parsons and seven points from Josh Tokley’s boot. The Rovers came agonisingly close at Keresley, losing 26–28. The Colts supplied the win, beating Nuneaton Old Edwardians 24–0: Louis Proctor crossed twice, Thibaud Servant and Jacob Haddow once each, with two Will Keeshan conversions.

On Saturday 31 October, the first XV travel to Old Leamingtonians for a 3pm Counties 1 Midlands West (South) kick-off. The second XV/Rovers are also AWAY, at Shottery, with 3pm the listed league kick-off. Please use this corrected away venue.

Our archive records at least 42 first-XV meetings with OLs from 1940 to 2026, including friendlies as well as league and cup games. The first was an 11–0 defeat on Easter Monday 1940; the latest ended rather more happily, John Brear’s last-gasp try sealing an 8–6 win in February. Derby supporters have certainly earned their nerves!

For the second XV against Shottery, the records establish one definite standalone meeting: a 46–12 away friendly win in February 2019. A separate 2023 friendly was against a combined Stratford/Shottery side. Other club teams have their own history: three Hunt brothers—Aaron, Matthew and Oliver—appeared together for the Spartans against Shottery in December 2009. Those games are not second-team totals.

On Sunday 1 November, the diary has the Colts hosting Bicester at 1:30pm. Six played Colts–Bicester meetings are documented across 1973/74–2025/26, including two friendlies last season; a 60–3 away win in November 1975 stands out. These are recorded minimums, not all-time totals.

The U7s–U12s welcome Droitwich on Sunday. The website lists 11am friendlies for U7s and U9s–U12s; U8 timing and U6 training time should be checked with coaches. U14 training is listed at 10:30am. No other weekend fixture is currently listed for the Women’s XV, Spartans, U13s, U15s or U16s; that does not confirm a free weekend.

200 Club: congratulations to our winners
Congratulations to Alex Carroll (£300), B Finch (£200), Judy Miller (£100) and Craig Smith (£50), and thank you to everyone supporting the club through the 200 Club.

Future draws will take place at VP lunches on Saturday 12 December 2026 (Christmas lunch), Saturday 13 February 2027 and Saturday 3 April 2027, when Bromyard are the visitors. Put the dates in your diary—and perhaps keep a little space in the Christmas shopping budget for good luck!

Walking Rugby: tomorrow and the winter move
Tomorrow, Wednesday 28 October, we play Old Leamingtonians and Kenilworth: meet at Old Leamingtonians at 6:30pm. This is the meeting time; kick-off has not been specified.

Wednesday 4 November will be the final Wednesday winter training session. From Thursday 12 November, Walking Rugby moves to Thursdays at 7pm on the Minis pitch. Numbers are growing, the pace is more relaxed, and new and returning players are very welcome. Spread the word!
