John Griffin RIP
AGM
Pre-season training
Bar open for Sweden game
I am sorry to have to inform you of the death of John Griffin in Australia on 25 June. John was the brother of the late Brian Griffin and was a regular full-back centre for the club between 1955-61, before emigrating. He died suddenly of a heart attack. He is shown in the picture attached taken on a visit home in the 1980s
The Annual General meeting of the club took place last night. There are no major items to report but the minutes will be circulated as soon as they are written. Despite the counter attractions of pre-season training, the England versus Columbia game and the extreme heat we had a very good turnout. Thank you to everyone for coming. If you didn’t get the papers let me know and I can supply these by email.
Pre-season training has now commenced and will continue every Tuesday and Thursday until the start of the season – commencing at 7.00.
Interest in the round ball game seems to be growing as England progress in the World Cup. The bar will be open on Saturday for the quarter final game against Sweden, kicking off at 3.000
If you have visited the club in the last couple of weeks, you will see that the drive has been repaired thanks to the availability of a grant from Sport England and an investment by the club. Please note that if we want the new surface to survive and avoid further expenditure the drive and not a drag strip – so to the budding Lewis Hamilton’s amongst us please drive slowly
Details of the tickets for the autumn internationals have been published. We are playing Australia, South Africa, New Zealand and Japan. Ticket details will be included in the next In Touch
We continue to have difficulties again with the GMS mailing system which sends out In-Touch and other communication with members. I am aware that some people are receiving it but others are not. I am in correspondence with the RFU geeks at Twickenham about this but so far they have not come up with a solution. If you have missed any editions you can view them on the club website or I can send them to you via my email
