There were no senior games at the club on Saturday afternoon, but the place was buzzing: with an under- 16 touring party from Chobham; the senior players in party mood celebrating the finale of the Six Nations; as well as the Hockey teams. The Chobham boys fielded two sides against ourselves and Old Leamingtonians. Both games were close with the home sides just coming out on top.
The Seconds played on Friday night against Old Leamingtonians and were brilliant in the first half, running up a big lead. There were a lot of substitutions in the second period which changed the balance of play and in the end we just scraped home by 37-33. We were not aware that Eddie Jones was watching the game and that we inadvertently passed on some tips to his team on how to throw away a big lead.
This week the Firsts XV are at home to Kenilworth. We lost very narrowly over there at the beginning of December, but since that game they have gone on a long unbeaten run and have almost secured the Midlands 2 West title. They have reached the Warwickshire Shield final against Earlsdon as well as winning the Midlands Intermediate Cup last week against Droitwich (our next opponents). We have a VP lunch before the Kenilworth game so if you want Charlie Gardner to squeeze you in let us know asap.

There are now four games to go. Everyone is busy working out the permutations of what will happen if Whatstheirnames beat Soandsos. We have to face both the Midlands finalists (Kenilworth and Kidderminster) before we entertain Southam and Nuneaton Old Edwardians in the last two games. The position may be clearer when we get to those games, but maybe not.
Also on Saturday, the Seconds travel to Kenilworth and will be hoping for revenge for the Warwickshire Shiled defeat. The Colts entertain Oady Wyggestonians (2.45). On Sunday, the mini sides are all at Old Leamingtonians, the U13 entertain Northampton Old Scouts and the U15 entertain Bromsgrove. The U16 are at Alcester
John Richardson’s service of thanksgiving will be held on Thursday 28th March at All Saints Church, Leek Wootton. This will be at 11.00 and will be followed by a reception at the Rugby Club, to which all are l be invited. We anticipate a large turnout.
