Leamington arrived at Evesham with 9 players missing to face a strong looking Evesham team determined to avenge their deefeat earlier in the season. A physical robust warm up routine prepared the Moorefield men well however and was quickly rewarded. The evesham kick off was effectively caught , recycled and placed in the capable hands of the excellent Tom Betts. Tom used his blistering pace and clever running lines to clinically pierce the stunned Evesham defence and run the entire length of the opposing half of the field to score under the posts. A well taken conversion from Tom Treherne gave leamington an early 7 points lead.
An exciting 10 mins of play then followed where Leamington secured lots of possession although could not convert several scoring opportunities due to silly handling mistakes fuelled seemingly by their over enthusiasm to score again. The home team then started to put together some effective attacking moves focused on their big running forwards and a long period of defence started for the visitors. Leamington showed some excellent defensive spirit and highly capable tackling spearheaded as always by the ever brave Logan. The agressive defensive work began started to dent the Evesham attacking desire and the momentum began to swing leamington's way in the latter stages of the first half.
After the half time period Evesham's resolve recovered and their impressive back row forward shrugged off several tackles to level the scores after only 7 minutes had elapsed. More evesham points seemed inevitable however ongoing solid defensive work from all the forwards pack although notably Rhys , Ben R Luke S and Ethan stiffled several attacking moves. A tense 20 minute period followed with both sides attacking and defending with equal passion and the desire to win was evident to all the anxious supporters.
With 4 minutes to go of the game and with the 'highly vocal' words of their coaching team encouraging the team to move the ball wide a brilliant move involving several pairs of hands released the wiley winger Morgan to be just pushed out of bounds over the try line. The 22 yard restart was driven back and quickly recycled to release the ever hungry Tom Betts into space and no mistakes were made this time with a confident finish in the left hand corner.
The restart kick deep into the leamington half was once again quickly recycled and passed to the willing hands of Rhys who set off on what was described by the coaching staff as the best solo run of the season up the pitch only to be held up by at least 8 defending players within 10 yards of the evesham. His quick pop pass to the supporting Tom Betts lead to him completing his hat trick of tries which after the successful conversion gave the visitors a final winning scoreline of 7-19.
Tom Betts was the deserved Man of the Match although excellent performances were given throughout the team.
The learning point however was that the Moorefield men do need to learn to effectively impose their style of quick open play on the opposition to maximise their scoring opportunities. This was a well won but difficult game and could have been much easier if they used the tried and tested strategy they have been coached in. .
