The Club can trace its origin back to a meeting held at Leamington Town Hall on the 22nd April 1926 and since that time it has blossomed into an enviable community centre of excellence.

Basking in glorious Spring sunshine, with the pitch providing a firm playing surface, Leamington entertained the big home crowd to a very watchable last game of the season, with centre, Rich McKowen, in scintillating form.

Leamington were first to shine when prop, Heera Johal claimed possession at the lineout, and found fly-half, Chris John, in support. The fleet-footed half back side-stepped his way into a good attacking position and when Droitwich erred, Jack Tripp-Smith took the opportunity to kick his side in front from the resulting penalty.

Droitwich hit back immediately with a try under the posts, duly converted, to give the hosts a temporary jolt.

This set-back was quickly overcome when Jack Tripp-Smith broke away and caught the opposition cold with a delightful, delayed pass to Gareth Shuttleworth, which opened up the Droitwich defence. All that was left for Shuttleworth was a 60 metre sprint to the try line with Droitwich defenders in hot pursuit! No contest and Leamington were back in front with the try, duly converted by Tripp-Smith.

The match was turned totally into Leamington’s favour, courtesy of two mesmeric scores from Rich McKowen, one, a sprint from his own 22 metre area, converted by Tripp-Smith and another following a link up with fly-half, Chris John.

The warm and uncommon conditions were certainly having an effect on the players and the early part of the second half was somewhat disjointed.

Leamington finally found their rhythm on around the 16 minute mark when wing forward, Rich Mullis, wrestled the ball free and sent Chris John away with a neat pass. Rich McKowen was in support, to take the try-scoring pass and increase his side’s lead further. Tripp-Smith did not disappoint with the conversion.

The hosts went further ahead, with a try from winger, Eddie Gill, converted by Tripp-Smith and although Droitwich pegged a converted score back in the final play, Leamington had done more than enough to secure a bonus point victory and end the season on a high.

I would like to thank Warn for his incredible dedication to the art of the community rugby match report over the years. Always offering a fair and positive view of the on field action and championing the young men that take the field week in week out.

I also know that his reports have offered an important connection to the club for Leamington members and supporters scattered around the globe so will be desperately seeking a suitably verbose and literate replacement.
