A bright breezy and chilly Harbury was the chosen location for the Warwickshire 2nd XV Shield final and straight from the kick off Leamington showed their powerful attacking intent. Within the fist 5 minutes following carry’s from power house forwards Lewis Kelsey crossed the line and Jim Robertson added the extras 7-0
Leamington offered no let up and quickly resumed their assault on the Shipston 22 and around the 10 minute mark slight of hand and intricate running lines Fly half Robertson was sent through a a big gap in the defences from about 20 meters out and finished under the posts making his job with the conversion a formality. 14-0
Leamington still continue ld to press home their early advantage and after an attempt to drive a line out over in the far corner captain Danny Ruyssevelt retrieved the ball from the heap and skipped round the outside to touch down in the corner, the conversion was narrowly missed 19-0
Shipston were still struggling to fire any shots of their own hampered by some poor handling and the power of the Leamington forwards who with Ollie Boyes at Hooker had nicked 5 ball against the head. This continued dominance led to a penalty which was expertly kicked to within 10 meters of the line and with the line out drills executed perfectly the ball was driven over the line with Lewis Kelsey taking charge. Robertson added the extras and with 30 minutes on the clock Leamington held an intimidating 26-0 lead
Seemingly with game decided the Shipston lads came alive and 10 minutes of pressure before half time was repeatedly repelled by a Leamington side exercising the defensive might for the first time, some brilliant defensive reads from Mark Baldwin and Iain Cameron in the centres and Alex Johnston on the wing who expertly used the touch line as an extra defender.

Shipston continued where the left of and must have spent around 30 minutes of the second period camped in Leamington territory but the standard of defending was exceptional, with the perfect blend of guile and grunt the Leam boys would not broken until 20 minutes in to the half a driven line out made its way over the line with the conversion missed Shipston were still 4 scores from victory 26-5

The attacks continued and with Leamington seemingly missing the final quality pass to stun Shipston on the counter more defending was needed and it to another 15 minutes before the line was breached again courtesy of a well wighted kick pass to the corner but ultimately it was too little too late and having dominated both sides of the ball Leamington ended their 30 year wait for some county silverware with a well deserved 26-10 victory
