RUGBY, TOURING TEAMS AND A QUESTIONABLE PINT OR TWO!
Leamington Colts 17 | 44 West Bridgford Colts
Sunday 11th October 2026 | Home Friendly
Well, after Friday night’s fantastic league victory over Stratford, there was barely time for the Colts to wash their kit before we were back at it again on Sunday!
This time, Leamington welcomed West Bridgford Colts to Moorefields for a friendly fixture against a touring side.
And if there’s one thing we love about rugby, it’s welcoming visiting teams to our club.
New faces, new friendships, plenty of rugby and, of course, the opportunity for a little post-match socialising.
A GAME PLAYED IN THE RIGHT SPIRIT
West Bridgford arrived ready to play, and by half-time the visitors had established a 22-7 lead.
But Leamington weren’t about to call it a day. The lads kept battling, adding another ten points in the second half and continuing to give everything against a strong visiting side.
West Bridgford eventually ran out 44-17 winners, but there was plenty more to Sunday’s game than the final score.
WHEN RUGBY IS BIGGER THAN THE SCOREBOARD
One of the best moments of the afternoon wasn’t actually a try, tackle or conversion.
It was seeing players from West Bridgford pull together with our own lads when injuries began to impact the Leamington squad.
Rather than simply watching from the sidelines, some of the visiting players stepped in to play alongside Leamington and help keep the game going.
And THAT is what rugby is all about.
Two clubs might arrive as opponents, but there’s a shared love of the game that goes well beyond which colour shirt you’re wearing.
A huge thank you to the West Bridgford lads who stepped up to help us out.
Different shirts. Same game. One rugby family.
AND THEN THERE WAS THE SOCIAL… ??
Now, normally this is the part of the match report where we’d talk about individual performances, try scorers and those spectacular moments on the pitch.
Unfortunately, my usual sources of information were slightly less forthcoming today.
What I CAN tell you is that apparently it was someone’s birthday amongst the visiting squad.
And somewhere along the way, there may have been a pint of something that looked rather suspiciously like it had been collected from a muddy puddle. I’ll leave you to draw your own conclusions about that particular post-match performance!
Apparently, some things are best left out of the official match statistics.
Although I suspect there might be a few stories from the clubhouse that will be remembered longer than the final score!
TWO GAMES. ONE WEEKEND. PLENTY OF RUGBY! ?
It’s been a busy weekend for Leamington Colts.
A fantastic Friday night league win away at Stratford, followed by a Sunday afternoon welcoming a touring side to our home ground.
Two very different fixtures, but both showcasing what makes grassroots rugby so special.
Competition, determination, teamwork, friendship and the opportunity to bring young players together through a sport we all love.
Congratulations to West Bridgford on their victory and thank you for making the trip to Leamington.
We hope you enjoyed your visit, both on and off the pitch!
A big well done to all the Leamington lads who turned out this weekend, and thank you to the coaches, volunteers, parents and supporters who helped make it happen.
And a special mention to the visiting players who helped us out when injuries struck. The result might not have gone our way, but the spirit of rugby was definitely the winner today and judging by the limited information coming out of the clubhouse, the post-match entertainment wasn’t too bad either!
